The moisture content of a sample is defined as the ratio of mass of free water to the total mass of the sample, and is generally found by weighing the sample, dehydrating it, and re-weighing.
Sinar Technology instrumentation uses the relationship between moisture content and the samples dielectric constant as the basis of measurement. It has been noted for many years that the variation of the dielectric constant of hygroscopic materials against moisture content is approximately linear over a limited but useful range of 0% - 35% moisture content.
No sample preparation required
Accurate to .3%
Readings in 6 seconds
Precalibrated for green, parchment, dry cherry, roasted, and ground
Automatically adjusts for temperature & sample size
and a sieve shaker are often utilized to run this analysis, which also verifies that the grinder settings are in calibration.
Sinar SP Moisture Probe is designed for speed with on site bulk grain or coffee moisture testing, where it is difficult or inconvenient to gather samples and transport to a laboratory setting. Used by high volume importers and exporters.
“We deal with hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of coffee every week. Half a percent moisture content either way makes a big difference to our bottom line. Your instrument paid for itself in the first week of use.”
